RiverStone Dog Park - Update - Jul 09, 2018

RiverStone off-leash dog park update: construction begins this week on improvements, park to reopen in stages in early August

Construction begins July 10 on repairs and improvements to the popular RiverStone Dog Park off-leash area.

The park was closed temporarily in April due to wet, muddy and slippery conditions. The popularity of this park, coupled with last summer’s heat and this past winter’s level of precipitation, overwhelmed the new grass. Since that time, construction plans have been developed to provide a hardier space that will better withstand with the intensity of use the park is seeing as well as incorporate some of the requests received from park users.

These updates include:

  • Pockets of sod and additional hydro seed on remaining grass

  • An in-ground irrigation system

  • Additional limestone pathways and expanded limestone areas

  • Snake-proofing on the perimeter fence

  • Additional seating for dog owners

  • Additional garbage receptacles and dog bag dispensers

  • An enclosed area for small dogs

Construction is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.  Some additional time will be required for the sod and seed to establish, and the park is anticipated to begin reopening in stages in early August.  Areas that need additional establishment time will be fenced off while other areas will be accessible. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to take advantage of the city’s other off-leash areas at Scenic Drive South, Peenaquim Park, and Popson Park. Residents are also reminded that dogs are required to be on a leash unless in designated off-leash areas.

The RiverStone Dog Park opened to the public in 2017. The first park of its kind in the city, it quickly became a very popular destination for dog owners.
